Top Tier Roos Tryout Standout Performers

Prospect Wire was in attendance providing scouting coverage for the Top Tier Roos tryout this weekend in the Tampa Bay area. The Roos have a strong history of turning out star studded players including Aidan Miller (Phillies), Jackson Miller (Reds), Liam Peterson (UF), Wes Mendes (Ole Miss/FSU), and a number of others throughout their time.

This weekend proved that the newest crop of Roos teams will be just as talented as those of the past. Take a look at some of the players who peaked our staff's interest after a great weekend:

Camden Boehm 2027 RHP/3B: Boehm showed all weekend long why he is one of the top prospects in the entire 2027 class. Showcasing his low 90s FB and a firm tight breaking CB. New to his arsenal from the last time we saw Boehm was a power changeup that will be devastating to LHH's trying to gear up for the high velo FB. Boehm has the high waisted frame to add strength & good weight which makes his ceiling incredibly high. He should be one of the most sought after prospects in the 2027 class come August 1st.

Kasey Mink 2026 UTIL/RHP: Mink is an ultimate utility player as he showcased above average defensive abilities in the OF & IF. He showed an impressive approach at the plate using the whole field as he picked up multiple hits through the middle in the game on Sunday.

Parker Mitzel 2026 RHP: Mitzel showcased some raw power and electricity on the mound on Friday as he was 90-92mph in his bullpen. He then showed off with the bat on Saturday and Sunday with impressive exit velocity numbers consistently driving the ball with power to the pull side during BP. Mitzel, who is currently uncommitted, should be a highly sought after 2026 recruit for anyone looking to add a power RHP.

Christian Sheffield 2026 IF/OF: Sheffield comes from a lineage of talented baseball players and showed that he inherited the family trait of finding barrels like his father (Gary) and brothers (Jaiden & Noah). Sheffield impressed with his quick hands and plus bat speed during BP on Saturday & followed it up on Sunday with a ball to the warning track in the first inning.

Yuniel Paredes 2026 IF: Paredes showed a smooth swing with a solid gap to gap approach in BP while showcasing clean actions in the IF during defensive segment. Paredes should be a fun watch this Summer with the Roos.

JC Velazco 2026 C: The Prospect Wire All American catcher showed what made him an All American to begin with. Velazco runs especially well for his position and that athleticism was on display this weekend. His simple set up at the plate with a middle field approach picked him up a few knocks on the day. He also showed off tremendous baseball IQ as he handled the pitching staff Sunday during the games.

Anthony Iatarola 2027 LHP/OF: One of the more intriguing 2027's that came on our radar for the first time this weekend is Iatarola. He first caught everyone's attention on Friday with his low lefty slot bullpen reaching 87 with his FB & pairing it with a wipeout SL. Iatarola then impressed Saturday as he was up to 89 from the OF and put together an impressive round of BP. Sunday Iatarola swung it well and put together a shutdown inning on the mound. Keep you eyes on him jumping onto people's radars this Spring/Summer.

Jaeger Bedford 2027 RHP: Bedford is a big RHP out of Jesuit HS with some impressive metrics on the mound for the Sophomore. He was mid 80s with high spin on his FB (2320) & SL (2425). Look for him to be a name to watch as he continues to add physicality over the next year.

Branden Pegueros 2027 RHP: Pegueros is another big RHP presence on the mound for the Roos. He got up to 86 on the mound Sunday in the games when out of the windup but settled in low/mid 80s after that. I would expect Pegueros to continue to make strides on the mound with improved mobility and mechanical consistency.

Sam Heintz 2027 UTIL/RHP: Heintz is one of our favorite players to watch anytime he's on the field. From a metrics perspective he continues to improve, but where Heintz stands out is with the little things. Heintz showcases an elite baseball IQ with how he plays the game whether he's in the IF, OF, or on the mound.

Anthony Tenuto 2027 IF/RHP: Tenuto is a physical 2027 with some arm talent and good actions defensively. He was up to 85 in his bullpen on Friday and put together a nice showcase day both at the plate and defensively on Saturday.

Evan Pedersen 2028 LHP/1B: Pedersen is an impressive 2028 2 way prospect. Getting the job done on the mound and at the plate, Pedersen is one of the more intriguing 2028 prospects as he has many of the tools already present.

Nathan Jeter 2028 UTIL: Jeter is a Prospect Wire All American Alumni and showed why that was on Sunday as he consistently drove the ball to all fields in game play. Jeter has a impressive barrel awareness and barrel accuracy which leads to him being able to drive the ball to all fields as he picked up two doubles on Sunday.

Spencer Meachum 2028 RHP/OF: Meachum showed a potential power arm as he sat 82-83 on Sunday in game action paired with a sharp curveball that gave hitters fits. Look for him to continue to make strides and improvements as he already showcases impressive athletic movements down the mound.

Jax Kohler 2029 UTIL: Kohler is a Prospect Wire All American Alumni who recently reclassed to the 2029 group. Kohler is a physical utility player who excels in the IF at any spot or OF. He can also hop on the mound and have success there as he was up to 80 Sunday. At the plate he found a few barrels on Sunday and continues to impress each time we see him.

Cole Jones 2029 C: Jones put together one of the more impressive BP rounds we saw in the 2029 group. He has power potential to the pull side with his explosive swing. He also showed advanced catch and throw skills behind the plate during the defensive portion on Saturday.

Thank you to Jason, Andy, and the Roos staff for their hospitality this weekend and we at Prospect Wire wish you all luck this Summer!
